Oldie but Newbie

[My Introduction posted in SkatersCafe Forum]

hey all!  new again to skating after taking a decade off... And i'm loving it more than ever!!!

Mostly riding bowl and ramp these days, which is much different than my past skating experience.  I barely ever rode ramp back in the day, and had never gotten a chance to ride bowl.  It's great that there are so many parks around nowadays so that I finally get a chance to spend some quality time learning this style of skating.

While I can't do all the tricks I used to be able to do, I feel like I'm enjoying the whole experience more now that I'm older.  I've gotten past the desire to compete to be the best skater.  Instead It's just me, my board, and my own personal goals for improvement.

Aside from my goals to improve my skating, I'm also trying to spread my regained love for skating to others by starting my own grassroots Skateboard company (Something i was never able to do because of lack of funds).  I want to do this because i realized that I've always loved skating, and always will... and why not try to make my mark on this thing that made a huge impact on me.  I want to introduce the sport to new riders.  I want to get retired skaters back on their boards so they can re-discover the fun they used to have.  I want to get more girls skating.  Basically, I want skateboarding to be EVERYWHERE!!!

Maybe I wasn't paying attention back then...but I feel like skating has developed into something more pure than it was a decade ago.  I guess it probably goes in cycles... and at this point, I feel like it's as pure as it's ever been.

Finally, Here's a shout out to all the local riders that have quickly & surprisingly accepted me (the guy twice their age, all covered in dorky pads while learning to ride bowl).  It's HUGE!... and unexpected.  It's nice to see how much the skate scene has changed from when I was a little punk bastard on wheels.

Later!
Shamus

p.s. If you're interested in my start-up Co... it's called "Day Of The Dead Skateboards" (or DOTD for short).  Decks will be out in mid April... available through local shops, and online once my website is up.  More to come!
