Some amazing news happened yesterday!!! Lately, I have been doing a lot of research at night trying to find great artists to come up with my next board design. I absolutely love the old skate art of Jim Phillips, Matt French, VCJ, Sean Cliver, & Jake Phelps... and have been trying to find someone as tallented as these guys in that style of art. While searching for Jim Phillips art, I found an amazing artist named Brian Romero. He recently made some decks for Deathwish Skateboards as well as Hustle Skateboards. He's also done some collaborations with some of the legendary artists mentioned above. Needless to say, his graphics are seriously sick!!!
Anyway...On a whim, I contacted Brian, and pitched an idea for a special project that I've been secretly working on for my dear friend Casey who's battling cancer right now. I'm not gonna go into the details (in case Casey is reading this), but I can say it's going to be an amazing design. Anyway, I didn't really expect a reply because this guy is in the big leagues of skateboard art... and, My company... well, lets just say Day Of The Dead Skateboards is about as little league as it gets right now. To my surprise, Brian replied back to my email and said that he's totally down to work on this graphic for me!! Brian is one of the few artists I've ever seen that could give this graphic concept justice, and amazingly enough he's willing to work on it for a tiny little skate company like DOTD. I can't wait to see Brian's interpretation of this idea I've had in my head for 6 months or so. I'm sure it'll be gnarly. Brian, if you're reading this... THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
And now... time for some skate porn!
